The Gender Genie is a fascinating Web tool/toy that uses an algorithm to determine the gender of an author, based on a sample of that author’s writing. So far, it’s been spot on in detecting that I’m male.
It’s interesting to note that there is more statistical “maleness” in samples I plugged in from my book than the bits I pasted in from my blog. Then again, I tend toward a more conversational style on this site than I do in technical writing, which seems to correspond with the findings of the authors of the study upon which the Web tool is based.
