I love it when two of my interests collide, particularly two that ordinarily have little or nothing to do with each other. In this case, it’s open source and comics. Jenny Everywhere is an open source comic book hero. She’s free for anyone to use in any comic they care to draw, and her powers and personality are just vague enough that she’ll fit into virtually any setting in which an author or artist cares to place her.

My friends and I have always envisioned “Open Actors”.
These would be imaginary characters that could take place in various games and stories. There would be standard art in a variety of formats depicting the characters. Their personality and abilities would be written up, along with samples of how the characters talk. Rosters will tell what they did in what worlds.
The licensing is the tricky part- how do you create a license for such a character? What kind of IP is that?
This same idea occurred to me while reading the Linus Torvalds/Open Source issue of WIRED. As usual someone beat me to it.
