Annoyed by Graffiti 2 on your Palm OS 5.2 or later handheld? There’s a way to restore the original Graffiti system. You’ll need access to a handheld that has Graffiti classic installed, and a file manager like FileZ, but supposedly it’s a simple process that involves copying a couple of files from the ROM of the older device to the new handheld, then performing a soft reset.
I don’t have a handheld with Graffiti 2 on it yet, so I haven’t needed to put this trick to the test. I’ve copied the necessary files to my Memory Stick, though, for future use. My brain is so used to Graffiti classic by now that trying to re-learn an input system might cause physical pain and possibly cerebral hemorrhaging.
It’s great to see that there’s a workaround for the whole Graffiti 2 mess. Graffiti 2 only exists because Xerox sued PalmSource over a dubious patent claim, and rather than fight it out in court, PalmSource changed the input system. Software mandated by lawyers is rarely up to snuff, and I’m glad to see the Palm OS user community find a way to collectively thumb its nose at corporate litigation.
