I wasn’t able to attend the PalmSource Developer Seminar this year, but Mike Rohde provides some great notes on the first, second, and third days. The notes aren’t quite as good as actually attending, but they’ll stave off my yearnings for a PalmSource convention until the big conference next February.
Palm Infocenter also has good coverage of important announcements from last week. I can hardly wait to get a hold of the material that PalmSource released at the conference on CD-ROM. New software toys are always exciting. I’m particularly interested in seeing if the FAST and Metrowerks CodeWarrior 9.2 provide any concrete advantages over hacking ARM-native code with the PRC-Tools.
I’m excited to see what collaboration between RIM and PalmSource will produce. RIM has always had one of the best wireless connectivity scenarios in the business, but I’ve never liked the form factor of their devices. Bringing RIM software to the Palm OS platform combines the best of both worlds.
It’s also great to see the introduction of the first Palm OS device exclusively devoted to gaming: the Tapwave Helix. It remains to be seen what game developers will do with the platform, but I particularly like the fact that the game machine has built-in Bluetooth. Tethering yourself to another game machine with a cable is so 20th century.
