Local government fights Patriot Act

The Washington Post has a great article about a resolution passed by the tiny city of Arcata, California. The resolution prohibits local law enforcement and city officials from complying with requests made by federal officials under the Patriot Act. It’s a great non-violent protest against the federal government’s attempts to erode civil liberties in the name of security.

And Arcata isn’t alone, either; 89 cities across the United States have passed resolutions condemning the Patriot Act, and the state of Hawaii is about to pass a statewide version. Pay attention, Washington: we don’t like your laws, and we’re willing to fight to protect the basic liberties guaranteed by the Constitution.
