Really small art gallery

Icon design is a hobby of mine. It’s not easy to create a recognizable image within a 16 × 16 grid, particularly when that image must convey meaningful information to a viewer. Successful icon design is very satisfying, if a little harmful on the eyesight.

Slashdot just posted a link to Susan Kare’s personal portfolio. Susan is the original designer for most of the icons and fonts on the original Macintosh computer, as well as the iconic elements of Windows 3.0. Anyone who’s used a computer since the dawn of the GUI recognizes her work on a subconscious level; her imagery has shaped how human beings perceive and interact with computers.
