There’s a very eye-opening report produced by the Project for the New American Century back in September 2000, long before the 9-11 attacks. Titled Rebuilding America’s Defenses: Strategy, Forces and Resources For a New Century, the report outlines a doctrine for preservation of a Pax Americana, chiefly by military means. Signatories to a letter from the Project to President Clinton on 26 January, 1998 read like a who’s who of the current administration, including such prominent figures as Donald Rumsfeld and Richard Perle. The Bush administration has been planning “regime change” in Iraq for more than five years.
Any White House claims that this war has anything to do with Al-Qaeda or the “war on terrorism” are pure fiction, spin doctoring to make an aggressive military doctrine more palatable to the American public. It’s disgusting that the people running the United States are capitalizing on the fear generated by 9-11 to build a foreign policy based on warmongering. The arrogance of the Bush administration and its successful attempts to alienate the global community make a lot more sense to me after reading this report. They’re policy, after all.
