Let’s face it: most of the coverage of the war in Iraq sucks. The American media machine has swallowed every last drop of hyperbole and invective coming from Washington. News agencies are stumbling over themselves in an effort to produce the most sensational bullshit they can put together, facts be damned. Even my standby, BBC News, has been regurgitating the same flag-waving vomitus that I can get from CNN. Given the awful reporting from the regular media, it’s refreshing to find a competent news source on the war in Iraq.
Surprisingly enough, the source happens to be the US Congress-funded Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. There’s a ton of actual information on this site. Coverage isn’t limited to the crap that the executive branches of the US and UK governments shovel out the door; there is insightful, detailed information here, assembled by RFE/RL’s own news team. There is also an Arab press review with useful opinions and reporting from people who actually live in the Middle East.
